Our HISTORY
The Mt. Olivet Church of Christ (Apostolic) under the leadership of the late Elder Walter Izlar, had its inception on 11th Street, S.E., Washington, DC, in 1957. A short time later, they acquired another facility at 1300 Rhode Island Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC, where they settled into worship. Under Elder Izlar’s leadership the membership grew. This growth necessitated the seeking of more room to accommodate this growth. They were blessed with the building at 1418 New Jersey Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC.
For the next ten years the congregation continued to grow and subsequently acquired two adjacent lots in anticipation of erecting a new edifice. However, over several months, the Christian Workers, Incorporated (CWI) was looking for a building to house their organization and church. Meanwhile, the Mt. Olivet Church officers decided to join the Christian Workers, Incorporated and in 1981 installed the Presiding Officer of CWI, Elder Hopeton W. Mair, Sr., as the new Pastor.
This new leader immediately expanded the Outreach Ministry of the church to include a clothing program, food bank and refuge center. The Outreach Ministry also re-established the radio broadcast and transportation department.
The growing needs of the congregation and the need for more rigorous evangelism accelerated the search for a larger facility. Early in 1994, God blessed Mt. Olivet with such a place. On Sunday, May 1, 1994, the new edifice at 5908 Addison Road, Seat Pleasant, Maryland, was dedicated and the name was changed to the New Mt. Olivet Apostolic Church.
The church has grown here and  internationally to included three member churches in the U.S. and five In Jamaica, West Indies.  These additional churches represent a significant increase in the membership of this organization.
